Christmas is knocking on the door
yet again
as it has done so many times before.
The old woman remembers
the Holidays of years past
her house full of life.
Warmth and laughter
would blend with familiar scents
of Christmas foods and a fresh tree.
This Season she has no company
her home is silent
her garden covered by new snow.
Memories flood her mind
beautiful images of Christmases past
fill her heart with joy.
She sends her love to everyone
grateful for her full life
she owns the message of peace.
Her quiet musings are broken
by a barely audible sound outside
the Christmas Spirit has arrived.
Wistful and a bit sad… This prose gives me mixed feelings. This picture, however, takes me back many years and reminds me of my grandparents’ cottage on Fox Lake. In the winter, it took on a similar tucked in, hideaway feel.
I shall have to think on this one for a bit my friend… Peace and joy!
It is a bit sad, but the point is that she has not become bitter, she’s grateful for what she’s had. And at the end she may get company, it’s up to the reader…Have a wonderful Holiday with your family!
Yes–the memories; thay are what we are left with, in the end…
Yes – then it is up to us to decide how to relate to those memories. Happy Holidays!
Merry Christmas and I hope you have a wonderful day with all those close to you.
Thank you Leanne! I wish you a wonderful Christmas too!
